More Dust 1947 Premium Miniatures
In a previous post I uploaded some images of Dust Studio's Premium miniatures that I spotted at San Diego Comic Con.
Here are some more! The above miniature is part of the IJN forces. It is simply painted but it does a solid job of portraying an attractive female... and that's one of the trickiest goals in miniature painting.
The armor unit below was airbrushed, detailed, dry-brushed with a light ivory color to make the edges pop, and then torn-sponged to get that chipping effect.
The overall effect provides a lot of visual interest, without a lot of work.
Each figure give us hints as to how it was quickly painted. Some were ink-washed over the whole figure, some on part, and some not at all. Most infantry only have one or two colors on each area. Are the highlights dry brushed on, or thinly applied?
Careful inspection reveals methods to quickly achieve results like these. Will they win a Golden Demon? No. Will they look better than most of the figures at a local tournament? Yes!

Speed Painting Techniques
These miniatures have to be painted quickly, otherwise it wouldn't be worth the money to produce them. Therefore, we can get ideas for our own painting efforts through careful observation of these minis. The armor unit below was airbrushed, detailed, dry-brushed with a light ivory color to make the edges pop, and then torn-sponged to get that chipping effect.

It really is a shame that Dust stuff isn't cheaper and more widely available any more.
ReplyDeleteDust is tricky to find in the wild. But Miniature Market has TONS of Allies, SSU, and expansions on super-sale. Many SSU 5-man units are on sale for $6!
DeleteWhenever I go on vacation, I always look to see if I can find a local retailer that carries Dust miniatures. In New Jersey there's a place in Tom's River where I picked up a Mercenary Railgun Team, and near Philly I grabbed a pack of SSU dice. ^_^
Thanks for the comment!
