Zvezda 1/72 Soviet Reconnaissance Team - Review & Assembly

I needed a spotter and a few other unique figures for my Battlegroup Kursk project. As I looked around my local hobby shop, I spotted Zvezda's Soviet Reconnaissance Team. It was about $4, so I picked it up to try it out.

The figures are nicely detailed and are compatible with the Plastic Soldier Company's Russians that I am using for my regular infantry.

Flash was minimal and assembly was easy. Each figure is made up of a very hard plastic and has two or three parts compromising the model. The facial details are very good and I am looking forward to painting them up. I don't think that I will use their stands... instead I'll opt for mounting them on English pennies. The one thing that concerns me is that the gun barrels are very dainty. I hope that they will hold up during game play.

This kit is well worth the price and I would recommend it to those who are considering customizing their Soviet WWII forces.

  1. I think you'll find that the guns are fine. The plastic in the Art of Tactic line is harder than your average 50-man box of soft plastic figs(from Airfix, Revell, Hat, etc.) but still slightly pliable. I've got some Zvezda stuff mixed in with my PSC stuff on my gaming table and there have been no small arms casualties :-)

  3. Looking forward to your painting of Zvezda figures. Reconnaissance team sound perfect for your current project. Are you going to paint them in Camo? I've bought several of Zvezda figure kits, but drew line at this kit because of camo, which I'm not ready to tackle on 1/72nd figures. Hoping to post photos of my completed kit on blog soon. Have fun with soviet figures!

    1. Tank Taco - I am considering doing them in the Russian amoeba style of camo, but we'll see. I want to finish up the rifle squads first and I am awaiting some English pennies before I can do that. I also have a couple of gun and mortar teams that are primed and awaiting paint. So much to do! - Jeff

    1. Whenever I start on a project, my ambition always exceeds my production capacity! This weekend is a perfect case in point: I desperately want to paint but unfortunately, due to a work project, I won't have the time to pick up a brush. It's horrible!

If I could just figure out how to not have to work... think of the armies that I could complete in those 40+ hours!...
