Speed Painting with Thomas David - Second Figure

So here we are with the second figure: a red Space Marine. As you can see, things are looking up. As usual, the figure looks much better in person.

The biggest difference between the first figure and the second is that on the first figure I used a colored prime that went from dark gray to a gray/green to yellow. On the red Space Marine I just used a black spray can prime base with a zenithal spray of white rattlecan on top of that.

After that it was a number of red/purple washes, followed by orangey-red highlights. Cool in the shadows. Warm on the highlights. That's good color theory!
The colors were so washed down with water that they were practically inks.
I believe another key is making sure that the paint added to an ink going into the dark areas must be darker than the ink, otherwise you'll get what happened with the blue figure: that sort of bronze tarnish look in the crevasses.

The results are very promising. It took me less than 45 minutes to get to this beautifully blended state. Look at those transitions! Now Thomas David's results are still lightyears beyond mine. But this second figure is a step in the right direction.

More to come! Next up: finished figures with more than one or two colors.
