UM Models GAZ-AAA - Finished!
I am on a roll! Models are getting completed around here! Ha ha! Well, the next one up is the Soviet truck from UM Models. The GAZ-AAA was a great little kit to work on. There were a lot of little fiddly bits, but it didn't take that long to put it together. If I had to do ten of them I'd go crazy, but one here and there is okay.
The MIG pigments and the MIG oil stains look good. I went a little heavy on the dust again. Next time I'll go lighter.
The UM decal was a complete failure again. On my other kits my method of gloss varnish then Microsol/Microset works perfectly, but the UM decals don't like what I am doing. Ugh.
I also learned a hard lesson with my matt varnish: I forgot to dilute it before I sprayed so it turned into a frosted Christmas tree ornament. Arrrrgh! I had nothing to lose so I wiped it off with some Tamiya airbrush thinner. It actually streaked the paint in a pleasing way, so I kept it that way. It's a happy accident! I'll take it. Sometimes you have to know when to stop messing with something.
Again, I am not used to working on these sorts of models so each is a learning experience for me. I think that I like the dust that is getting on the lower bits of the model... like near the tires and undercarriage. I don't like it when it gets on the hood and the roof. But, that's okay! My next models will be better, right?
My Battlegroup Kursk recon force is coming along nicely!
