Blood Bowl - Pitch Finished!

Good news! I finished up my Blood Bowl pitch a few months back! Bad news: I am just getting around to posting about it. Sorry about that.

This was my first attempt at creating any sort of terrain and I thought that it turned out fine. I didn't try to do anything fancy. I just wanted to get some sort of field that teams could play on.

Getting a static grass mat and using Eustachian brads was the key to making this project work out as well as it did.

Making terrain eats up static grass, glue, and paint like crazy. Buy in bulk! I switched to Apple Barrel and other craft paints to do all of the paintwork and drybrushing. I also borrowed some sand from a local playground.

The few rocks came from the side of the road. I had to save money where I could! The scatter, scoring, and turn tracks were simply printed out on card stock and then given multiple coats of spray varnish.

I like the extruded foam panel that I made it on. However, next time I will get the extruded polystyrene (in blue or pink). That way I won't have to deal with those annoying little white balls of plastic that get everywhere. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had to wrap the sides in black duct tape earlier than I wanted to to avoid those things flying around.

I am very pleased with the way the Blood Bowl field turned out. It was a fun project to complete and it didn't cost very much! Someday soon I'll purchase a team or two, paint them up, and start a league!

(I extend apologies to my readers who enjoy the historical content of this blog. Stay tuned! Historical stuff is on the way!)

    1. FMB - It turned out better than I was expecting. I've seen other boards with dugouts and trees and whatnot, but since this was my first time making terrain I wanted to do something basic. I learned a lot in the process and I had fun doing it. Making terrain is messy... my ShopVac had to put in overtime. - Jeff

  2. Monty - Thanks! I don't know why I suddenly was bit by the Blood Bowl bug, but I was and this is what came out of it. It was an interesting experiment. Thanks for the comment! - Jeff

  3. Hey there! Love the board. I stumbled here from Talk Fantasy Football. I'm new to San Diego and have been considering looking into TT in the area. Any chance you are actually playing in a league, or know of any?

    1. Hi Me! Thanks for the compliment. I appreciate it! Unfortunately, I don't know of any active leagues here. I would definitely post a paper notice at Game Empire in Kearny Mesa as well as At Ease Games on Miramar Road.

I was thinking about painting up a few teams and seeing if I could get my friends interested, but that hasn't happened yet. By that I mean that I haven't purchased and painted up some teams!

  5. It was an old mat that I had lying around from Department 56. I googled it and I don't think that they make them anymore. You might want to try Lemax or a grass mat for model trains. I hope that helps!
