Perry Napoleonic Greatcoated French Finished
Here are my Perry Plastic Napoleonic French - 100th Line Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion troops all finished up.
I think they look great and they completely exceeded my expectations! The faces are fantastic and the greatcoats are sublime. I love the standard bearer; he is perfect!
I was surprised that the regular uniformed troops turned out so well. I was expecting the the Army Painter Quickshade might make them drab and muddy, but that wasn't the case at all.
The Basecoat-Quickshade-Highlight sequence worked like a charm and I will be proud to have them on the table. The flag is by the always excellent GMB.
I feel so fortunate to know Michael Davis, who not only gave me many of his own unpainted greatcoated troops to bulk up my regiment, but also helped me get my color placement sorted out. Any errors made have nothing to do with him, but are due to my own ignorance.
All of this makes me wonder... what would a unit of British troops look like using this method?

You should be proud of these - they do look superb - and it is doubly nice that the stain worked so well on them. Really speeds up the work IMO. BTW, I've done the stain on British - and as long as you go highlight afterwards they'll look just as nice.

DeanM - Thank you very much! I was very pleased as to how they turned out. You are right, skipping that middle step and only doing a few highlights really moves things along. In addition, not having to worry about keeping a black line around the first color placement saves a ton of time.

ReplyDeleteChasseur - Thank you! I am still in disbelief at how well they turned out when I think of the small amount of effort I put into them. My three-step Foundry style painting takes 3 to 4 times as long as these base-dip-highlight figures. For the short amount of time put in the finished quality is astonishing.
