Perry Miniatures - War of the Roses Faces

My good friend Michael has jumped back into painting miniatures again after a hiatus of many, many years. Normally he commissions artists from around the globe to create 28mm masterpiece armies for himself. However, recently the painting bug has bit. What can you do but to pick up a brush and have a go at it, right?

He wasn't happy with his first efforts. But, when are we ever completely pleased with our work? I suggested that I could help with some of the finer details while he knocked the rust off of his painting skills. He wasn't pleased with the skin and faces on a few models, so I told him that I'd do them up for him. Then I'd ship them back and he'd finish them up and base the units.

What you see here are a few of the first miniatures in our collaborative effort. They are Perry's and they are beautiful! It's been well over a year since I've attempted 28mm skin and I have to admit that I'm a little rusty as well, but I am having a great time painting faces. Now, these are not done yet. Michael is still going to clean them up a bit and add a highlight or two here and there, but you can tell that they are well on their way.

Like good basing, having a decent face on a model goes a long way to making it pleasing to the viewer. These are going to look great on the wargaming table when they are done!

Collaborating with a good friend is a great way to paint miniatures. If you haven't done it, you should.

    1. It's fun to do. The painting goes very quickly. On some of them it is just a rosy lip and a chin. Then I'm done and it is off to the next figure!

    1. Thanks Monty! These figures are going in the post today and will be crossing with some others that are heading my way. Michael said that he did a better job on this next batch. I'm excited to get them.

    1. It is a team effort: I get to do the fun part, and Michael does all of the hard work. Ha ha! Actually, we get to do the parts that we both excel in. That's what makes it work.

    1. It is interesting working on someone else's miniatures. I'm painting for them, not me. It is a different thought process. It is liberating in a way (I won't look at my mistakes forever on my own shelves) and in other ways it is tougher (I want my friend to be proud of our joint efforts).

In the end, I'm just so pleased that my friend is painting again... and getting results that he is happy with!
