PSC - Russian T-70 Tank DONE

Here is my first tank that I have completed... ever! The Plastic Soldier Company Russian T-70 Tank kit was a breeze to assemble and the finished product speaks for itself.

Now, I don't think that it is perfect. There are many areas for improvement. But for a first attempt it exceeds my expectations.

Here is what I like: the green color, the smooth decals, the AK grime and rust streaks and filters, the glass lens painting, it is my first tank ever, the pinwashing, the model itself.

Here is what I don't like: too much rust pigment, too much mud pigments on tracks/wheels, chipping too regular, too much chipping, the gaps in the treads, the mis-match of filthy treads and clean chassis.

By the time I finished the over-rusting and over-mudding with the pigments I was too gun-shy to muddy the other parts of the tank. On my next one I'll go lighter with the pigments. But on the whole I am very happy and excited for the next one to reach the finish line. Feel free to comment with kudos or tips for improvement!

    1. Tsold9000 - You are right: there is an incongruity between the chassis and the wheels and track. After I had overdone the pigments I was too chicken to hit the mudguards and chassis. I have a T-34 that is almost ready for pigments. When they come out I'll circle back and dirty up this T-70 a bit. - Jeff

  3. Do you mind if I ask why you(and many others) choose to base your 1/72 tanks? I am thinking about getting Battlegroup: Kursk for example and I was wondering if this is required.

    1. Gareson - Thanks for the kudos. I based my tank (and will base all of my other vehicles) in order to keep them safe. Giving someone a handle to pick them up will help keep the vehicle in good shape. My infantry are based, so why not do the vehicles as well?

The downside is that if a vehicle is on a road, it won't match exactly, but that's okay. Some of the models that I use have over 100 parts and some of them are delicate. I'd rather keep them in good shape.

Battegroup Kursk does NOT require vehicles to be based. That is up to you. It is personal preference.

  4. The T-70 looks great and so does the Russian infantry soldier. I think the weathering on the body looks very realistic. All my tanks look like they just rolled out of the factory. You did a great job for your first piece of armor. I think It will take me a few tanks to come anywhere close to creating such a nice piece. I really liked write up on color swatches. Thanks for all the info & updates

    1. Tank Taco - Thank you very much! I like the weathering as well. It has been growing on me. The pigments and the AK Interactive Washes made things easy. I highly recommend them!
